Balloons are Blowing In The Air

Balloons are Blowing In The Air

Balloons are blowing in the air

But there aren’t children anywhere

The house was as cool as a fridge

Surrounded by bush upon a ridge

They were watching the Wiggles show

It was the last thing that they would know

The day Kinglake burnt to the ground

The day that fire made that awful sound

The swings in their yard still swaying there

I’m sure I see them when I stop and stare

I can see them still playing there

It was an Ash Wednesday replay

Tears will never wash away

Or the memory of that dreadful day

Or those faces who no longer play

Oooo, balloons are blowing in the air

Oooo, balloons are blowing in the air

Balloons are blowing in the air

But no children anywhere

No little hand to hold the string

No mummy’s skirt on which to cling

My brother and sister have long long gone

Somehow I managed to go on

That charred track has now re-grown

But those children play there now on their own

7 February 2009, the sun didn’t shine

Chorus
