JUNE 2007 - Jazz Action Society Magazine

Well folks the IT girl has arrived on the Jazz scene. This performer offers memories of all the sassy gals, sirens and singers that were pure eye candy and made our ears prick up. There is nothing understated about Sally - it's that wonderful Hollywood thing we loved when Rita Hayworth, Julie London, Peggy Lee and Eartha Kitt were strutting their stuff.

Sally's repertoire is well designed. The show opened with Blossom Dearie's Bambies Blues - you know the femme fatale that offers the tease and then returns to her orchard - intact.  This was fun.  A quick mood switch to a mellow song All I do is dream of you which I loved. Then back to a "lets have lots of fun" meander with songs such as Making Whoopee and I want to be Evil.  The musos were wonderful and joined in Sally's games with Viking hats and Diamonds (are a girls best friend).  Sally is a very relaxed performer who understands stagecraft and invited the audience to join in - which they did in great humour.  She IS her musical style and has plenty to give the audience with fun, twinkle and tongue in cheek. Her rendition of the Old Country was smooth and serious.  It goes without saying that the band was well blended...

Watch this girl - she is full of surprises and will mature into a very interesting performer (get to her gigs). I constantly eyeballed the room - the punters had very big smiles and some of the men had eyes that were glazed over with the feast of such glamour. Thanks Sally.  Keep singing and reminding us that life can be fun!
